Uskrsno pucanje iz "pištole" pod Kostelom najdublje je vidljivim i nevidljivim nitima povezano uz vjerski život Župe sv. Mirka. Blagdan Uskrsa koji nam jezikom vjere govori o Kristovom uskrsnuću i neprekinutom trajanju Života, ne slučajno pada u vrijeme oživljavanja prirode. To je vrijeme kad prestaje prividno mrtvilo i započinje novi život, a znake novoga života Kosteljanci radosno pozdravljaju "streljanjem" iz "pištola".
Pozornica gdje se stoljećima odvija ovaj običaj starija je i od samog običaja jer su stari grad Kostel, a vjerojatno i prva župna crkva izgrađeni prije nego što je barut iz Kine, kao veliki izum, stigao do Evrope i ovih krajeva. Grad Kostel (lat. castellum - tvrđavica), izgrađen u 13. stoljeću, jedan je od najstarijih u ovom dijelu Hrvatske. Izgrađen je na sjevernom obronku Kunagore i imao je izrazito strateški značaj. Često je mijenjao vlasnike, a od znamenitijih spominju se grofovi Celjski, Jan Vitovec, Juraj Brandenburški i grofovi Keglevići. Župa sv. Emerika u Kostelu pod tim imenom spominje se prvi put 1334. g. u Statutima zagrebačkog Kaptola. Njena povijest usko je povezana uz povijest grada Kostela i njegove stanovnike, osobito uz grofove Kegleviće, koji su bili patroni ove župe. Uz današnju župnu crkvu nalazimo i jednu stariju - Crkvu Trpećeg Krista, a u sastav Župe spada i Crkva sv. Stjepana (Sv. Štefana) i sv. Roka.
Tradicija današnjeg pucanje iz "pištola" povezuje se s pojavom grofova Keglevića u Kostelu 1523. g. Otad je on postao glavno sjedište velikaške obitelji Keglević za više stoljeća. Petar Keglević držao je u gradu posadu oboružanu "pištolama'' pomoću koje je nadzirao ceste koje vode u susjednu Štajersku. U čast Kristovog uskrsnuća Petar Keglević slao je naoružanu stražu da u noći s Velike subote na Uskrs čuvaju grob Isusa Krista, te se ujutro po izlasku iz Crkve pucnjevima iz "pištola" slavilo Uskrsnuće. Dakako to nije bila jedina temeljna zadaća “Keglevićeve straže”. Ono što se isto tako ističe u odnosu na druge dijelove tadašnjeg feudalizma jest da pripadnici straže nisu bili kmetovi koji su plaćali porezi, već su Kosteljanci i Kosteljanke bili slobodni ljudi što je bio priličan presedan.
12. ožujka 2001.g. unutar Kluba "Kostelska pištola" osnovana je povijesna postrojba hrvatske vojske "Keglevićeva straža - Kostel". Začetnici ideje oživljanja Vlastelinskog banderija Obitelji Keglević su Milan Flegar, Josip Novak i Gordan Špiljak. Oni su imali viziju - ideju o tome da se osnuje postrojba po uzoru na postrojbu obitelji Keglević. Treba reći da Klub "Kostelska pištola" i povijesna postrojba "Keglevićeva straža - Kostel" djeluju zajedno na promociji zagorskoga kraja. Primarna zadaća povijesne postrojbe i svakog člana je očuvanje i promocija kulturne baštine zagorskog kraja i Republike Hrvatske, te očuvanje časti plemićke obitelji Keglević i srednjovjekovnog grada Kostel-grada.
Postrojba je 19. prosinca 2008. godine proglašena počasnom postrojbom Krapinsko-zagorske županije. U prilog tome ide i podatak da postrojba ima preko 50 nastupa godišnje u hrvatskoj i inozemstvu. Povijesna postrojba 2015. godine nastupila je i imala čast predstavlja hrvatsko zagorje na inauguraciji predsjednice RH i na svečanom mimohodu povodom 20. godina VRO Oluja.
Nepobitan dokaz o utemeljenosti usmene i vjerske predaje iz 1523. godine postrojba dobiva 18. prosinca 2012. godine kad je običaj streljana povodom Uskrsnuća zaslužilo status nematerijalne kulturne baštine Republike Hrvatske proglašeno od strane Ministarstva kulture kao jedini istinski i povijesno utemeljeni običaj "streljanja" povodom Uskrsa. To je ujedno i potvrda da je “Keglevićeva straža” uistinu postojala i obavljala svoju stražarsku i vjersku službu na području Kostela i Kostelgrada, usko vezana za plemićku obitelj Keglević.
Ove godine klub započinje uskrsne svečanosti druženjem starih članova u srijedu 24. ožujka. Na Veliku subotu 26. ožujka pristižu im gosti: Dubrovački Trombunjeri, Hrvatski sokol iz Osijeka i Vinkovaca, Frankopanska garda iz Ogulina te Gradska straža iz Bakra koji će sa "Kostelskom pištolom – Keglevićevom stražom Kostel" ići na mimohod kroz Krapinu i prijavak Županu. U 15 sati na igralištu Područne škole Kostel održat će se svečano otvorenje "Kostelske Uskrsne pištole" uz sastav Vinski brati. Udruga kostelskih žena otvorit će izložbu "Uskrsni stol od tijesta". Nakon svečanog otvorenja u 20 sati u crkvi Sv. Mirka slijedi blagoslov vatre i "streljača".
Na Uskrs u zoru mještani Kostela krenut će prema ckrvi Sv. Mirka na misu jutarnjicu u 6 sati te po običaju starom 493. godine dočekati svanuće i glasnim pucnjevima proslaviti uskrsnuće Isusa Krista. "Streljanje iz pištola" uz Limenu glazbu Pregrada i goste iz Dubrovnika, Osijeka, Vinkovaca, Ogulina i Bakra bit će moguće vidjeti i čuti i u 16 sati na misi večernici. Na Uskrsni ponedjeljak "Kostelska pištola – Keglevićeva straža Kostel" i gosti odlaze na Vinagoru na zavjetno hodočašće kuburaša MB Vinagorskoj.
Manifestacija završava na Bijelu nedjelju, na Dan Grada Pregrade. "Kostelska pištola - Keglevićeva straža Kostel" će tim povodom ugostiti: Turopoljski Banderij iz Velike Gorice, Varaždinsku građansku gardu, Zrinsku gardu Čakovec, Trenkove pandure iz Požege, Karlovačku građansku gardu, Ivanečke vitezove, Križevačku djevojačku stražu, Viteški red Jurija in Volka Engelberta Turjaškega iz Žužemberka (SLO) te Hajdučku družinu Mijata Tomića iz Tomislavgrada (BIH). Oni će s početkom u 8.30 započeti mimohod gradskim ulicama te dati prijavak gradonačelniku, uz pratnu Limene glazbe Pregrada. Nakon protokola Grad u suradnji sa lovcima priprema se druženje sa građanstvom na Trgu Gospe Kunagorske. U 15 sati kreće okupljanje postrojbi, svih članova "Kostelske pištole" te mještana i zaljubljenika u običaj "streljanja iz pištole" u Bregima Kostelskim. Popraćeni Desinićkim mažoretkinjama i Limenom glazbom Vetropack-Straža "Kostelska pištola – Keglevićeva straža Kostel" i svi njihovi gosti organiziraju defile povijesnih postrojbi do crkve Sv. Štefana, odakle puca prekrasan pogled prema starom gradu Kostelu. Upravo je streljanje kod Sv. Štefana centralni i najposjećeniji događaj kojeg ne propuštaju ni domaća kuburaška društva.
